Proposed Hillside Village Continuing Care Retirement Community
At a public hearing held on November 2, 2015, The City of Keene Zoning Board of Adjustment approved final plans for the Proposed New Hillside Village Continuing Care Retirement Community located in a rural area north of Keene.
The ZBA noted:” The special condition of this property that distinguishes it from other properties in the area is the existence of several areas of steep slopes, wetlands and floodplain. In order to avoid and reduce impacts to the most sensitive ecological areas on the site, it was necessary to locate and construct buildings and parking in such a way that there will be minor impacts to the physical environment, including the existing steep slopes on the site.”
The main two and a half story Community Center Building fronts on Wyman Road while the four ILU Apartment Wings comprised of 117 Apartment Units projecting eastward cascade down slope resulting in four story wings with enclosed parking below. This arrangement provides expansive views out toward the open wetlands and vistas beyond for all of the Apartments. A separate 24-Unit Villa Building contains an additional 24 Villa Apartments, all fronting on the open wetlands.

An underground sky lighted Tunnel connects the Community Center Building with the 60-Bed Health Center located on the west side of Wyman Road. The Health Center contains Households comprised of Two 5- Bed SNF modules; Two 16-Bed Assisted Living Units, each consisting of 5 & 6 Unit clustered 1BRM Apartments and an 18-Bed Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit at the Lower level, comprised of 3 smaller Households with access to an outside Sensory Garden.
Construction of the 313,000 square feet facilities is expected to commence in early 2017.
